Thornton Le Street Success!!
We have been posting details as we get them for the series of workshops and talks around the theme of Roman Roads in Yorkshire being held at Thornton Le Street just north of Thirsk.
So far there has been a lot of support. Mike Haken’s Roman Road Introduction was so successful that there was literally standing room only last Saturday. Future talks will require advanced booking!
Live Archaeology Open Day York
The YAT Archaeology Live annual excavation is at All Saints Church in North Street, York. There is an open day on Saturday 25th October from 11 am until 3 pm. Drop in to see what they have found in another successful summer.
Roman Excavation Opportunity in South Yorkshire
Elmet Archaeological Services are offering several places on a small excavation to understand some recently uncovered Roman remains in Swinton, near Rotherham, S. Yorks.
The price ranges from £70 for a single day up to £240 for a full five day attendance. The excavation will be fully supervised by experienced professional archaeologists and all levels of archaeological investigation and recording will be taught to the attendees.

Thornton Le Street Workshop and Talk
Following on from the workshop on Aerial Photography Workshop at Thornton Le Street on Saturday 20th September, there will be a workshop on LIDAR Technology also presented by English Heritage on Saturday 11th October 2014 from 9.00 am to 1.00 pm.
The September 20th workshop is now fully booked.
On the same day and at the same venue, there will be the next talk in the Roman Roads series. the speaker is Hugh Toller and his subject will be Roman Roads and LIDAR. His session will be from 2.00 pm.

First World War & Nidderdale AONB Commemorative Walk – full details
Saturday 20 September, 10am to 4pm
Join us to commemorate the First World War at this special centenary event. Events and activities throughout the day will form the backdrop to a walking party who will ‘walk in the footsteps of the Leeds Pals’, taking the same route the Leeds Pals took 100 years ago from The Old Station in Masham to their training camp in Colsterdale.

Aislabie Walk
Saturday 18 October, 9am to 5pm
Join Paul Mosley, Hackfall Officer, for a 12 mile circular walk along part of ‘The Aislabie Walk’, which links the designed landscapes at Studley Royal and Hackfall. Starting from and ending at Studley in the south, the walk will go just beyond Galphay in the north taking in some fascinating heritage sites in between. Dogs welcome. Please bring a packed lunch or money for a pub lunch at the Galphay Inn.
Meet: Lakeside car park (Deer Park) at Studley Royal (approx. £3 for the day or free to NT members).
